Welcome to Barnardo's Scotland
. .

.

.

Today Barnardo's Scotland runs, in partnership with other bodies, 62 community-based services across Scotland. From Inverness to Ayr, we work to improve the lives of around 10,000 disadvantaged children, young people and their families each year.

Barnardo's works with Corporate, Public and Voluntary organisations. Working together to provide intergrated services is our guiding principle. Together we seek to overcome a range of contemporary challenges affecting Scotland's children and young people.
These issues include disability, poverty, abuse, HIV/AIDS, family breakdown, youth crime, homelessness and alcohol or drug misuse.

Our Vision-

At Barnardo's our Vision is that the lives of all children and young people should be free from poverty, abuse and discrimination.

Our purpose is to help the most vulnerable children and young people transform their lives and fulfil their potential.

Our Policy and Research Unit works to develop campaigns and shape legislation that will provide the best possible legal and social framework for Scotland's children and young people.

Programmes and Activities-

Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is one of the most cost-effective ways of making regular donations to charities.

Employees ask their employer to deduct regular charitable donations from their pay. Deductions are made pre-tax pay, in other words, after calculation of National Insurance Contributions, but before deduction of Pay As You Earn tax. It will only cost employees £7.80 to donate £10 to Barnardo’s (assuming basic rate tax).

Volunteering
Barnardo’s has an established volunteer programme. We can help individuals or groups find which volunteering opportunity is best for them, based on their interests and skills and where the need of Barnardo's Scotland is greatest. If individuals don’t have the skills needed, we’ll help develop them where possible.

Volunteering with Barnardo’s not only helps us to achieve our aims, it can also be of benefit by giving individuals or groups the opportunity to develop or expand personal and professional skills, and build on team goals.

Shops
Volunteers are always needed to:
 Help as a shop assistant, offering quality service to customers
 Become a driver, collecting donations and delivering goods
 Work 'behind the scenes' in the stores, sorting and ironing clothes
 Put their creative flair to use by becoming a window dresser
 Keep the shop books and files in order

Fundraising
 Help to organise a specialist event in your area or help out on the day
 Provide support to our professional fundraisers

Projects
Barnardo’s has many projects located in Scotland. Volunteers can:

 Decorate, cook, clean, drive and landscape gardens
 Help with group activities and outings
 Befriend young people who are leaving care without the support of a family, helping them to develop independence skills and become a positive part of their community
 Help run a holiday programme of outdoor pursuits
 Help at after-school, evening or weekend activities

Corporate support:

We value our corporate supporters, and have a Corporate Account Team who oversee all major company fundraising initiatives. This team is backed up by a Regional Fundraising Team in Scotland, who help employees to both participate in organised events and set up their own. Our media team, with regional offices, will ensure that opportunities for local media coverage are maximised.

There are also opportunities to support Barnardo’s at a corporate level by linking with Barnardo’s for a special promotion or customer survey - for example Cable & Wireless conducted a customer survey and for every response returned, 50p was donated to Barnardo’s. Cable & Wireless survey response rate went up from 3% to 27%. This, along with staff fundraising, raised £210,270 for Barnardo’s UK.

Supporting a well recognised and trusted children’s charity like Barnardo’s offers the opportunity to associate with a good cause that is valued across all ages and social groups.
